Edison and Ford Winter Estates
View Map
Thomas Edison received no formal education because he was homeschooled - his mother was a teacher, yet he created the forerunners of many of the electric lights, appliances, machinery and methods we take for granted today. The inventive genius of Edison is evident throughout his 14-acre riverfront estate. His botanical gardens reflect his love of exotic foliage and search for useful materials. A 9,000 square foot museum houses memorabilia related to Edison's life. Also on display is his unique Model T Ford, a prototype presented to him by his friend Henry Ford. In 1885 Thomas Edison built his winter home in Ft. Myers, and in 1916 his good friend, Henry Ford, purchased a home next door. Visitors will also have the opportunity to view the lush gardens and quaint winter home of Henry Ford. This charming setting along the river of Ft. Myers is a wonderful way to spend a morning or afternoon.
